Why are people …

Why are people uneasy about technological change in music? Why music and not, say, filmmaking? Is it a post-WW2-style question of authenticity or has it always been this way? Keep in mind the vinyl LP was here and gone in much less than one human lifespan, but people have serious feelings about music as a physical medium you have on your shelf.  Musicians and fans of a certain age have very strong feelings about drum machines and sampling technology. To imagine there was a time (almost in living memory) when you needed a musician to play music and that most of human history was that way.  The magic box that plays anything (prerecorded) you want to hear is going to be “music” for a long time to come. Music has been with us and will be with us forever.
